I’m Trevor Maingi, a photographer and filmmaker based in Nairobi. I document what catches my eye—sometimes that’s a face, sometimes a place, sometimes just the way light falls on a quiet street. the ones that feel small but say everything.

I didn’t grow up with a camera in hand. In 2014, I started with a phone, and that simple act of noticing turned into something bigger. Over the years, I’ve shaped my craft through constant exploration, always drawn to the unfiltered and the authentic. Film photography, with its imperfections and nostalgia, has only deepened that obsession. It forces patience, presence, and a kind of trust in the process that digital never quite replicates.

My films? They live somewhere between structure and chaos. Some are deliberate, others are instinctive—stories that unfold as I create them. Either way, they share one thing in common: a search for something real.

When I’m not behind the lens, I’m chasing new ideas, collaborating with fellow creatives, or plotting my next visual experiment. So far, it’s been unpredictable. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
